10 Forgotten Horror Game Franchises That NEED A Reboot

4. Manhunt

For those of a certain age, the name Manhunt carries a particularly dangerous allure, one that few games since have ever been able to exude. Most would attribute this to its controversial status within the United Kingdom, where it was banned after claims it influenced a real-life murder - though these claims were quickly rejected.

Enough time has since passed where the the controversy has died down and people are able to assess the game on its own merits - which in turn has seen its reputation as a solid horror experience grow with time. Manhunt puts players in the shoes of James Earl Cash, a death-row inmate who is forced into performing in a series of snuff-films by a psychotic, omnipresent film director who puppeteers events from an unseen location.

The game blends tense stealth gameplay with wince-inducing brutality to tremendous effect, with the grubby urban aesthetic and generally grim atmosphere combing to make an experience that will leave you feeling like you need a shower to wash away all the unpleasantness.

Manhunt did get a sequel that sunk to further levels of depravity but it was missing the oppressive atmosphere of the original. Maybe it's time we finally submerged ourselves into the darkness once more.
