10 Forgotten Nintendo 64 Gems You Need To Play In 2022
1. Mischief Makers (1997)
The general public may have been tired of side scrolling platform games by the end of the sixteen-bit era. As a result, very few games in that genre were released on the Nintendo 64. Save for a few exceptions like Yoshi’s Story, most of these were relatively forgettable.
That said, Mischief Makers was a side scrolling platformer with a distinctly Japanese flair that went relatively overlooked during the N64’s lifespan. This game is totally bizarre, particularly to a western audience, but all of the weird elements on offer culminate in a surprisingly memorable experience.
Aside from platforming, the game’s main mechanic involves the main character’s ability to latch on to and shake objects and enemies. It makes for some interesting combat segments and neat puzzle elements, and it all amounts to the best fever dream a gamer could ever have.
This one probably isn’t for everybody—particularly those who can’t tolerate anything with an anime style—but Mischief Makers is one platformer which really deserves some love. Maybe a Switch port will come in the near future.
