10 Forgotten Nintendo 64 Gems You Need To Play In 2022
3. Doom 64 (1997)
Doom 64 is the forgotten child of Doom and Doom II. It could have been an amazing success had it appeared on the PC when it was relevant, but, having been held hostage on Nintendo's platform, it never got the recognition it deserved when it was released.
Doom 64 is a fantastic first person shooter: taking everything which made the series great and adding new weapons, new map designs, and an entirely new soundtrack, it really stands in a league of its own.
Doom 64’s developers didn’t opt to push the series into a rough, harshly polygonal 3D space. Instead, they stayed true to the series roots and constructed the game as a 2.5D shooter exactly like the previous games, albeit with a better lighting engine.
This feels like the Doom 3 we never got, and, though many players have moved on in response to 2016’s awesome DOOM release, veterans players owe it to themselves to go back and check this thing out.
