10 Forgotten Video Game Franchises That Need to Make a Comeback

8. Onimusha

Another forgotten game from Capcom, first released back in 2001. It took figures from Japan's past and retold their stories using supernatural elements. The games were a blend of sword based combat mixed with puzzle solving. In the first game you played as Samanosuke, a Samurai entrusted with the "Oni Gaunlet" from the Oni clan, enabling you to vanquish demons and collect their souls, which are used as currency throughout the game. You receive this gift while trying to protect your cousin, Princess Yuki, from a large demon. The second installment saw another person blessed with an Oni Gauntlet, this time a character called Jubei Yagyu. This game introduced multiple characters that you could interact with and who could later become allies. Depending on how many gifts you traded with them, they would also appear at certain points in the game to help you with boss battles. It also had certain elements of RPGs, such as being able to improve and equip different items, as well as weapons. Onimusha 3: Demon Siege returned to Samonosuke as a main character as he destroys the demon armies of Nobonaga in Japan in 1582. It then switches to modern day Paris with a man named Jacques racing to help his friend Phillippe. The demons then start invading Paris. Samonosuke and Jacques then get pulled through mysterious time portals and end up in each other's era. They have to battle through this to bring down Nobonaga once and for all. Onimusha 4: Dawn of Dreams was the last in the main series of games. This installment overhauled the pre-rendered backgrounds of previous games, this time focusing on 3D environments. A second party member could also be used in battle this time around. The character not being controlled by the player could then be issued with commands via the D-Pad. Why it needs a comeback: Again, like Dino Crisis, Capcom have become too focused on Resident Evil, so this game could really benefit from a current generation overhaul: the environments and demons would look amazing with up-to-date graphics.
