The Game You Played - Bubsy In Claws Encounters Of The Furred Kind Designer Michael Berlyns attempt to recreate the magic of the Sonic series for the Sega Genesis and SNES while adding in more than a few pop-culture jokes. Was It A Worthy Substitute? Only if you compare it to one of the really bad Sonic games. Michael Berlyn was reportedly so obsessed with Sonic The Hedgehog that he would play it for up to 14 hours a day. Inevitably his obsession spilled over into his design philosophy and Bubsy became little more than his attempt to match the hectic beauty of the Sonic games. He might have been successful if it weren't for the game's awful controls, convoluted level design and complete lack of charm. Nintendo fans looking for a Sonic style experience on the SNES wouldnt find it in Bubsy, but the real victim here may just have been young Genesis owners who were gifted this game by some horrible mistake based on good intentions.
