10 Gaming Moments To Make You Cry

7. John Dies - Red Dead Redemption

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKafS8zn5TI Red Dead Redemption marks a real corner-turning moment for Rockstar Games, as they manage to bring their superbly-realised action titles into the emotional dimension that they've so far pretty much avoided with the Grand Theft Auto series, as former outlaw John Marston tries to let go of his life of crime and become a family man. However, at the game's climax, things get pretty hairy when a fleet of Marston's enemies ride to his ranch, while he sends his wife and young son away on a horse to avoid paying for his sins. John emerges from the barn of his ranch to be greeted by dozens of Edgar Ross's men, all with their guns poised, when suddenly, the Dead Eye turns itself on, giving the player the feeling that perhaps they can actually come out of the situation alive. Of course, you can't, and after lining up just a few shots, you're blown to smithereens, collapsing to the floor in a pile of gore and bullets. It was an extremely epic and emotional moment given how likeable John Marston was and the fact that he had a family to provide for, but at least the game provides us with the cathartic option of playing as an older Jack, who can get revenge on Ross and murder him.
