4. Liquid Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid 4)

Liquid Ocelot is a unique villain in that he's the culmination of two intense rivalries from Snake's past. With the body of Revolver Ocelot and the perceived mind of Liquid Snake (it turns out that Ocelot actually went through a series of hypnotherapies to take on the personality of Liquid), Liquid Ocelot is a fitting finale to the Patriots Saga in Metal Gear Solid 4. Both men proved to be fierce enemies of Solid Snake throughout the series and the final encounter leads to some of the best scenes from the fourth game. The fight against Ocelot is highly anticipated too; he's a boss fight in both MGS1 and 3 but a clear winner is never shown in either fight. Snake defeats Liquid in the first game but there's never a victor in his rivalry with Ocelot until the final fight. Even without the build-up of the previous games, the Liquid Ocelot fight draws you in beautifully. A final hand-to-hand showdown between rivals both nearing the end of their lives, the fight takes place on the ruins of Outer Haven with glorious views overlooking the ocean and the setting sun (ooh, it's all one big metaphor), it's impossible not to instantly be enthralled. A fitting end to one of gaming's greatest rivalries. Let's hope that Metal Gear Solid V can reproduce one that's equally as intense.
