10 Gods We Need To See In SMITE In 2021
4. Uranus
Pantheon: Greek
The Greek god of the sky, Uranus was said to be both the child and consort of Gaia, the goddess of the earth. Unlike Zeus, Apollo and Poseidon who were members of the Twelve Olympian Gods, Uranus was one of the Primordial Deities that was originally born from the void. Currently only one of the Primordial Deities is playable in SMITE, the god of time: Chronos.
With Gaia, Uranus fathered 18 children. The first twelve of these became the first generation of Titans, the next three became the Cyclopes and the final three became the Hecatonchires. As well as this, an event recounted in the ‘Theogony’, a poem by Hesiod, tells that the youngest of the Titans, Cronus - not to be confused with Chronos - castrated Uranus. The blood from this action was used by Gaia to create the Erinyes, the Giants and the Meliae. Finally, Cronus through Uranus’ severed genitals into the sea, where they are said to have formed into the goddess of love, Aphrodite.
Of the current Greek gods playable in SMITE, Zeus is the
closest the game has to offering a Greek god of the sky. Also, with the
exception of Mercury, most of the deities for which the planets of the solar
system were named were avoided, often using the Greek equivalent to these Roman
names (Zeus instead of Jupiter, Ares instead of Mars etc.). Uranus stands out
as one of the few planet names taken from Greek mythology.
