1. Hire Proper Writers

Way back when, it was perfectly fine for Barry to turn around to Jill in Resident Evil (sorry for picking on you twice, Capcom) and say it might come in handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you before giving up the lockpick. But again, modern gaming has spoiled us to the point that lousy writing and/or translation is just no longer forgivable. With games becoming more and more like their cooler cousin film, there are titles out there right now that feature incredible writing. Red Dead Redemption springs to mind, as does most of the GTA series, most of the Mass Effect series (sans III's ending), Bioshock, Portal, the list admittedly goes on. But Id say a good 80% of the time, video game writing is complete and utter dog sh*t. The problem? Bad writing generally
doesn't affect how well a game performs. Take any Call of Duty game for example; wheres the protagonist, wheres the story arc, wheres the meaningful dialogue? (note: RPGs on the rooftops is not meaningful dialogue). There really isnt much there in terms of
writing but still, its a top seller, because it plays well and its online community is thriving. But as a single player experience, traditionally it's severely lacking. In an era where we've had such incredible single player experiences like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption and GTA, I just don't see any feasible excuse for shoddy writing. In this writers opinion, proper writing is not only becoming increasingly important to the single-player campaign (thanks to guys like R*, Bioware, Valve, amongst others), its also quickly becoming the future for gaming as a whole.
