Gamers were blown away when the first Dino Crisis mixed Resident Evil with Jurassic Park. When the turn of the century saw survival horror take a more action-based turn, fans were receptive of the sequel's rootin', tootin', time-travel-to-boot-in' shenanigans. So what was the next logical step for Capcom's dinosaurs-for-zombies series?

Space, apparently.

Which, if done right, could have been amazing. Had they the powers of time travel from the second game, Capcom could have nicked Dead Space's [first two games'] formula and beaten them to the punch.

In reality, Dino Crisis 3 was a mess of a title, bearing little resemblance to what came before it. It had all the hallmarks of a Capcom survival horror, wonky camera system and all. But outside of that, it was a sequel in name only.

No real connection to the events of the first two, awkward combat, and an extremely forgettable story. Yet the most egregious thing of all?

They weren't dinosaurs! In a game called Dino Crisis, no less. It's right there in the title.

As such, the mess that was Dino Crisis 3 failed to keep the series afloat, and barring a couple of light gun spin-offs, the series now lies extinct.
