Hideo Kojima's first three-dimensional masterwork and the game that introduced a laundry list of cinematic conventions to the gaming realm. For the first time we saw properly directed cutscenes, voice acting performances that could be held up against the filmic greats, and crazy characters that were a perfect mix of eastern anime-influence and western action hero tropes. In short, MGS helped prove that games could be every bit as engaging as films, and when you threw in gameplay that tied these cutscenes together in another truly revolutionary way, Mr. Kojima's life would never be the same again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osKWF9SpEug&list=PLDDABA219D1710793#t=531 Being that we'd just had a huge info-dump in regards to the plot and our motivations, along with hearing from a certain particularly well-spoken villain who we'd later take on, finally making it to the elevator at the back of the compound was some much needed levity from the intense time many of us had sneaking past anything for the first time. It was also a great time to showcase Solid Snake himself, as long before he would become the wise-cracking, bandanna-wearing, Super Smash Bros.-starring hero we all know and love, he was just a dude in a rather fetching snorkel.
