10 Greatest Late Title Cards In Gaming History

4. Resident Evil 4

Continuing with another genre-defining, industry-rattling behemoth of a game; Resi 4 completely changed its approach when it came to presenting action by swinging the camera directly behind the protagonist, and giving us precision aiming with which to blast some infected-zombie heads off. Sadly the series would career off the rails and end up in a smouldering pile of wreckage as of 2014, but back in 2005 when the first pieces of in-game footage emerged, this was one of the most hyped games of our time. Capcom and director Shinji Mikami totally knew it too, effortlessly creating one of the greatest opening sequences in gaming history thanks to the perfect combination of intense atmosphere, beautiful graphics, and that perspective. It meant every time character Leon had to investigate some dilapidated shack, we were right there behind him like some tag-along horror-film best friend, waiting to be scared senseless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOWI69uSonA#t=79 It's a pretty lengthy section you get to play out before everything kicks off too, as you're chased around the village by some possessed, Wicker Man-connoting Spaniards baying for your blood. In a great turn you actually can't beat them, meaning you end up using up all your ammo before holing yourself up in one of the houses and hoping for the best. It all seems like you're about to bite the big one, until suddenly a cutscene plays out that calls away all the villagers, leaving Leon alone in the middle of the now-deserted area and boom - the title card appears. Sublime.
