10 Greatest Next-Gen Video Game Heroes
6. Richter Belmont
Descendant of Simon Belmont
The original Castlevania centres around a young vampire killer called Simon Belmont, who heads to Transylvania to put an end to Dracula's evil. After he vanquishes the Count, Simon acknowledges the king of vampires is destined to return every generation. As a result, Simon realises his bloodline is destined to battle the prince of darkness until the end of time. Even though everyone in Belmont's lineage has helped safeguard the world from evil, Simon is seen as his family's greatest champion.
However, his descendant, Richter, is a close second. This whip-wielding warrior battled Dracula in the 18th century - about a hundred years after Simon. Debuting in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Richter quickly became a fan-favourite. Despite the fact most heroes in the series only make a single appearance, Richter has been brought back several times, including in one of the best games ever, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Even though each Belmont is meant to be tougher than the last, Richter is among the strongest, slaying more vampires than almost anyone in history. This feat is all the more impressive considering Richter was barely an adult when he began hunting supernatural creatures.
