10 Greatest Second Levels In Video Games
6. Roscoe Street Station - Max Payne
Max Payne opens with a grim prologue sequence in which the titular NYPD detective arrives home to find his family brutally murdered, setting him on a roaring rampage of revenge for the rest of the game.
Max Payne's second level, "Roscoe Street Station," gets players to grips with the game's innovative bullet time mechanics, allowing them to mow down relentless hordes of anonymous goons in ultra-satisfying slow-mo through a twisting labyrinth of industrial hallways.
Though the station interior isn't the most interesting of environments, it's an eerily sparse locale for players to learn the game's ropes while also being grossly outnumbered.
A terrific primer for the rest of the game, then.
