5. Claptrap - Borderlands 2

Claptrap was one of the best things about the first Borderlands game, and the same is true of this sequel, for which he even scooped a VGA award for Character of the Year (even if I somewhat disagree with being
quite that complimentary). As a sidekick to the protagonist, Claptrap is a whole lot of fun, sarcastic but never mean-spirited, a hilarious machine who makes the game's epic odyssey all that more enjoyable. Like so many machine characters in video games, it's the unexpectedly idiosyncratic quality of his character that makes Claptrap so enjoyable to watch, particularly that the main extent of his hatred for Handsome Jack is that he shut down every Claptrap machine except this one, which I suppose in his mind is tantamount to trying to eradicate his entire species. He's a great comic relief character, yet at the same time also one who proves instrumental to the mission's success.
