For every runaway video game success, there are many unreleased and cancelled games that fall by the wayside; often they will be original projects in their infancy that we'll never even hear about, and then there's those promising projects - both new IPs and long-awaited sequels - that are put upon the chopping block for any number of reasons. It's particularly frustrating when a game has a massive fanbase and appears to be long into development, before it ends up being canned, depriving players of the follow-up they so badly craved. Granted, the world of Kickstarter campaigns makes the prospect of at least one or two of these games getting officially released still possible, though for the most part, we're going to have to settle for leaked ROMs, fan projects, and simply trying to wonder what playing them would be like. Here are the 10 greatest video games never made...
10. The Getaway 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9cqeYSJo9w 2002's The Getaway was an absolute blast and one of the very best GTA clones on the market, taking viewers through the expertly-rendered London streets on a mission to save one man's son. That said, Team Soho's admirable effort was mired by a few issues that held it back from being a true classic, namely dodgy controls and some awkward cameras. The sequel, Black Monday, failed to really address these bugbears, though was still an entertaining if somewhat underwhelming action game. In 2005, it seemed like the third time might be a charm, as a PlayStation 3 tech demo was released for The Getaway 3, depicting a gorgeously rendered London that looked quite unlike anything else we had ever seen at the time. However, by 2008, the game was shelved, and though never officially cancelled, it's safe to say that this extremely promising title will never see the light of day. Shame.
