Mike Tyson made history as a video game boss when he released his own 1987 game on the NES, Punch Out!! In order to master this fight there are no tricks or short-cuts to take. The only way to beat this boxing monolith is to dedicate hours upon hours to this game.

Disregarding the fact that Tyson can deliver devastating blows that will have you kissing the canvas faster than if you were actually punched by, well, Mike Tyson, the real challenge comes in trying to land a punch on his tattooed mug.

This isn’t a game that can be beaten just by studying attack patterns, as these can be randomised after the first round. Rather, you need to study the environment around you. Ridiculous points such as when the clock hits a certain time and Tyson blinks are your only times to strike. (Yes, really.) The key is looking out for particular events occurring and making your move accordingly.

Given that these events can also be randomised, this encounter comes close to falling into the unfair category. However, if you’re willing to put in the time, it is actually possible to master this game. It’s just stupidly difficult.

The rest of us can stick to something easier. Sekiro, for example.
