4. Sephiroth - Kingdom Hearts 2
Final Fantasy VII’s resident scumbag, Sephiroth, also makes an appearance in the obscure yet beloved crossover game, Kingdom Hearts 2. Being the main antagonist in Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth provides a tough combat challenge, but it’s nothing in comparison the difficulty spike players will face if they choose to fight him in Kingdom Hearts 2.
One glaring difference between these two encounters is that Final Fantasy VII’s combat is turn-based, whereas Kingdom Hearts 2’s is in real time. This challenges player with less time to react to Sephiroth’s attacks and to make key decisions during the fight.
Sephiroth is also considerably stronger this time around, using a variety of ranged, up-close and environmental attacks. It’s easy to be caught in a slashing combo that will tear up your health bar in seconds with parrying, dodging and finding openings in his defences the focal points for victory. The fact that the more damaged gets, the more powerful his attacks become, certainly doesn’t help either.
Sephiroth is an optional boss in Kingdom Hearts 2, meaning you can finish the game without ever having to fight him. That being said, it’s unlikely anyone who played through Final Fantasy VII would turn down the opportunity to do some more damage to the smug prick.
