10 Hated Video Game Sequels Everyone Was Too Hard On

5. Silent Hill: Downpour (2012)

Ah, the Silent Hill sequels - it's hard to find a collection of games more hated than these. The once untouchable horror series was slowly but surely decimated by the onslaught of generic, uninspired post-Silent Hill 3 releases that seemed to forget what made the franchise special. While there are many (rightfully) adamant defenders of Silent Hill 4: The Room, it's way, way less common for fans to throw support at Silent Hill: Downpour.

So, let's give it a try.

Downpour is far from the heights of this franchise, with the combat and monster designs being particularly bland. However, it boasts some plus points that are often overlooked, like the generally strong narrative. The story of escaped convict, Murphy Pendleton, facing the nightmares of the town after surviving a bus crash nearby, makes for a thrilling setup with some great payoff, especially in the player-choice-impacted endings.

Additionally, the implementation of side quests adds a unique edge to the game that provides some stellar motivation for world exploration.

Is it great? Maybe not, but it's not as bad as many think it is.
