Following the universally praised Rogue Squadron, Factor 5’s follow up title Episode 1: Battle for Naboo sought to bring the same fast-paced, aerial combat gameplay to the world of The Phantom Menace, more specifically to the embattled titular planet of Naboo.

Attempting to mix up the space combat formula via the addition of both ground and sea-based sections, Battle for Naboo was nevertheless met with a decidedly underwhelming response from players and critics alike.

However, if you can look beyond the divisive Prequel setting, scratch the surface and you will find a more than competent Star Wars game.

Whilst similar in design and control to Rogue Squadron, it just cannot seem to shake off its Phantom Menace shackles and is ultimately a poorer experience for it.

Despite offering a wider variety of vehicles, and sporting a newer engine than Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo ultimately fails to transcend its older and more successful sibling despite being an entertaining game in its own right.
