10 Hilarious Video Game Death Scenes You Totally Missed
3. Nier: Automata - Self-Termination
Considering the androids in Nier: Automata are meant to be proof of the intelligence in AI and all that, they sure do make some silly choices from time to time.
Like eating potentially lethal fish, for example. Or self-destructing at the mother base, taking out everyone on board too.
Yet none of these compare to literally pulling your own brain out. Did we leave nothing from the Terminator movies? They're not allowed to self-terminate, so why would highly advanced androids some hundred years into the future be able to?
Oh right, the nature of free will and all that.
The problem (and subsequent hilarity) with this option and ending, is that it's akin to the big red button principle. Put a big red button and a sign saying, "Do not push the button" and you know someone's curiosity will get the better of them.
It's the same with this one: the game warns you about what will happen.
But of course, we are curious by nature and sure enough, removing your operating system chip (your brain, in this case) will... cause you to die.
Ah, turns out androids maybe shouldn't be trusted with free will after all.
