10 Horror Franchises That Should Be Turned Into Video Games

6. Hellraiser

Written and directed by Clive Barker, and based on his own novella, Hellraiser has always been a remarkably prolific franchise. In fact, there have been nine instalments over the years, which is more than both Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street. A remake of the original is also being considered by The Weinstein Company, which would represent the tenth film in the franchise, rivalling even the most impressive of outputs, including Friday the 13th.

The series itself is about a group of interdimensional beings, known as Cenobites, who abduct people in order to perform horrific, masochistic experiments, brutalising their bodies and devouring their souls. The gateway between the realm of the Cenobites is maintained by a mysterious puzzle box, which is often used inadvertently to summon the demonic creatures.

The Game: With its terrifying premise, horrific visuals and iconic monsters, Hellraiser would make for an excellent survival horror.

Like Silent Hill, Hellraiser: The Game should utilise interdimensional travel, shifting reality constantly in order to create a sense of rampant unpredictability.

As the player moves from room to room, the likelihood of them transitioning into the other world would increase, until they’re eventually dragged into the realm of the Cenobites, kicking and screaming. Once there, the objective would be to escape, to find a doorway back to reality, an exit route.

The only threat in the game would be the Cenobites themselves, who would occupy the other dimension and wait for the player to fall into one of their traps. There could even be a few puzzles based around travelling back and forth between realities, avoiding enemies and overcoming obstacles.

The game would end with the player sealing the puzzle box, and preventing the Cenobites from tearing their soul apart.
