10 Horror Video Games Dying To Be Remade

5. Cold Fear

The Suffering
Ubisoft

Cold Fear deserves a remake almost entirely due to its stellar setting: a Russian whaling ship cast adrift during a storm in the Bering Straits. There's tremendous potential for Cold Fear to utilise the power of next gen to deliver a top tier horror thriller.

The plot sees Tom Hansen of United States Coast Guard coming to the aid of a distressed whaler only to discover the vessel plagued by a parasite.

The main pull of this title was its setting, with developer Darkworks creating a specific physics program that allowed the ship to bank and roll realistically, requiring a staggering amount of character animations to compliment the concept. Critics praised the setting and the opening sections of the game, but felt it was a bit short and didn't live up to the expectations set by this stunning start.

Clearly, next gen systems could take Cold Fear's ideas much further, especially with regards to the ship physics that gave the game its unique feel. A developer wielding modern power could expand on this initial promise and produce something truly special.
