10 Horror Video Games Dying To Be Remade
4. Run Like Hell
A troubled development cycle robbed Run Like Hell of its chance to be a survival horror classic, with gamers receiving a truncated third person shooter instead. Reviving the title and returning to its original horror concepts could launch a new franchise for the genre.
Nicholas Conner returns to find Forsetti Station overrun by a previously unknown alien race and most of the crew dead. With the base being slowly turned into a hive, Conner explores in the search of survivors and his missing fiancée Samantha. Featuring an impressive voice cast of Lance Henricksen, Thomas F. Wilson, Clancy Brown, Kate Mulgrew, Michael Ironside, and Brad Dourif, it is a shock to see such acting talent largely squandered by an basic third person shooter.
Rampant mismanagement saw Run Like Hell go from survival horror 'Resident Evil in Space' to a lacklustre shooter though some of the original potential is still evident. One of Run Like Hell's most interesting mechanics, the A.I. is supposed to learn how the player plays and adapt to increase the challenge.
Back in the day, this was difficult to sense, but now it could be wielded far more powerfully to produce an exceptional survival horror.
