10 Hugely Beloved Video Game Sidekicks - Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Detective Dick Gumshoe (Ace Attorney)
I’m gonna come straight out and say it – Gumshoe is by far the worst police detective I’ve ever seen in any game. He’s forgetful, he’s clumsy, and he’s generally just a bit clueless at all the wrong times – but despite all of this, you just can’t help but love him.
He’s absolutely devoted to Edgeworth – loyal to a fault, in fact. That’s why he’s originally so hostile to Phoenix – but over time, and after facing so many cases together, he grows into one of Phoenix’s most loyal friends as well. It’s this loyalty to the two of them, and an unwillingness to let the truth be covered up, that makes Gumshoe such a valuable ally. Time and again, he grants you access to important locations that would otherwise be completely inaccessible.
He also has an incredibly useful habit of turning up in the nick of time with case-changing evidence. Throughout the series, I’ve lost count of the number of times that Gumshoe has burst through the courtroom doors, clutching what proves to be the final piece of evidence needed to lock away the killer. He’s an incredible friend and a terrible policeman – but if you’re even half the detective Gumshoe is, you’re doing a decent job.
