10 Iconic Video Games That Could Be Made Perfect With Remakes
3. Silent Hill
Like many games that debuted on the PS1 but received PS2 sequels that became instant classics, the original Silent Hill has become overshadowed by the titles that followed it.
But while that's a travesty, it's no wonder why most players tend to bring up Silent Hill 2 and ignore the game that preceded it. Held back by the restrictions of the original PlayStation, the console's limitations admittedly led to a few happy accidents (for instance the fog that hid the game's poor draw distance ended up creating an iconic atmosphere and look for the entire series), but for the most part they make the survival-horror game an absolute chore to return to today.
Of course while the combat and core gameplay itself could benefit from a few upgrades, it's fundamentally the restrictions of the PS1 itself that really bring the experience down, as the long load times between locations, the empty environments and intrusive camera transitions completely break the immersion the game otherwise brilliantly captures.
The first Silent Hill feels like a trial run for the series as a whole, and although Shattered Memories attempted to re-imagine it a few years ago, a true overhaul would allow it to rub shoulders with its more popular sequels.
