10 Images That Will Restore Your Faith In Upcoming Video Games
4. Gears Of War 4
Why We're Worried: It would be ludicrous to say that Gears of War 4 looks bad, because it absolutely doesn't, but at the same time, it just seems like a very familiar, down-the-line entry into the series, coasting on prior success albeit with better graphics and...a protagonist who isn't Marcus Fenix (but his son instead).
Why This Image Rocks: If the E3 demo left you cold as it did many, the additional campaign footage that landed recently might ease your doubts: it shows J.D. Fenix and his team navigating their way through what appears to be a dangerous electrical storm, having to avoid the bolts as they make their way to a service tower.
As you can see, not only are the bolts a prime example of the game's gorgeous lighting engine, but this creates a distinct look and feel that's far away from the much-mocked greys and browns that have largely dominated the franchise.
It doesn't mean the campaign won't be familiar narratively, but at least its style just might make the most of the Xbox One's advanced tech and aim for something a little more ambitious than usual.
