10 Immortal Video Game Moments You'll Replay Forever
5. Welcome To Rapture (Bioshock)
If 1998's Half-Life was a departure from the run-and-gun FPS action of titles like Doom and Quake, then 2K's Bioshock took things to a whole new level in 2007. This was movie-like quality, and the entire opening sequence drenches the player in lore without having to read endless text pick ups or watch lengthy cut scenes.
All you get is a downed plane, an abandoned lighthouse, a strange bathysphere and an introduction from the charismatic leader known as Andrew Ryan. Unlike Ryan's own rejection of the United States government, nobody playing through the opening moments of Bioshock will want to do a runner.
By the time some helpful-sounding Irishman asks, "would you kindly?" for the first time, it's hard not to be hooked by the world of Rapture.
An underwater city gleaming with promise, a leader determined to reward hard work, and an unwitting protagonist stumbling upon all this as it's going to pot. That's Bioshock, and it's that intrigue which made Rapture one of the best locations in gaming history just over a decade ago.
Revisit it. You will not be disappointed.
