7. Reinforcing The Stakes - Wing Commander 3
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is a game that once again follows the story of Colonel Christopher Blair and his struggles against the evil Kilrathi, led by Prince Thrakhath.
Wing Commander III marked a significant shift in the series, with A-List actors such as Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell and John Rhys-Davies all appearing as it shifted the franchise to extensive live action motion videos, giving Heart of the Tiger a real Hollywood feel.
The game allows players to choose which ships they fly in, what weaponry they arm themselves with and who they take on missions. It gives a unique sense of role-playing and provides risk if you can't keep your allies alive.
Should a player continually fail entire missions though, they may be treated to a unique cutscene of the enemy Kilrathis taking over and ruling Earth, as well as the painful sight of Mark Hamill's Colonel Blair being brutally murdered by Prince Thrakhath.
It's a truly sombre ending that really delivers in making the stakes of the game feel that much higher.
