10 Incredible Games With Only ONE Mechanic
7. Chatting To People (Frog Detective 1&2)
Here's a direct message for those who haven't played the Frog Detective games - do yourself a favour the next time you're feeling down and whack this silly trilogy on. It will undoubtedly lighten your mood and won't take more than an evening. It's a real rainy-day treat.
As should be evident from the title, this indie series puts you in the role of a frog detective tasked with investigating a selection of mysteries. The first is the case of the Haunted Island, the second is the Invisible Wizard, and the last is Corruption at Cowboy County. Sadly, the last one doesn't qualify here as it introduces a scooter mechanic. However, the first two rely solely on one thing - talking to NPCs.
Despite being a detective, you're not put through the wringer with these games, as all you need do is chat with the quirky characters and relay stuff between them, that is all. Still, while you do precious little in terms of gameplay, the overall quirky vibe, boosted by its cute character designs, excellent writing, solid music, and subversive narrative, will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
