10 Incredible Things We Learned From Gamescom

7. Current-To-Next-Gen Upgrade Program

Battlefield 4 One of the most infuriating things about the next-gen release window is that it will narrowly miss out on a number of games like Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, and being the impatient sort that I am, I'm far more likely to just buy them on PC or a current-gen console rather than wait a few weeks and get them for my next-gen platform, as would be preferable. However, numerous announcements were made by major companies at Gamescom, making it clear that they appreciate this issue and are going to make it as easy as possible for players to resolve. For the majority of Xbox 360/PS3 games, you will be able to upgrade to a digital copy of the One/PS4 version for the mere cost of £10, which seems pretty damn reasonable given that this is basically going to be the price difference between current and next-gen games anyway. Furthermore, all of your stats, DLC, and so on will transfer from console to console, ensuring that the process will be as smooth and slick as possible. Major props to all involved for this one.
