A total conversion mod, Goldeneye: Source is a multiplayer remake of GoldenEye 007 for N64. Not only does it update the visuals, it also expands significantly upon the multiplayer, featuring the majority of maps from the original, as well as several stages originally accessible only through single-player. Additionally, the mod permits players access to weapons which were originally only available through cheat-codes, opening up the experience considerably.

Maps themselves are divided between two categories: ‘classic’ and ‘neo’. The former consists largely of favourites from the original, reimagined but faithful to their original layouts, where the latter consists of maps inspired by the films.

In 2006, the mod was awarded two separate awards – including an editor’s choice award – garnering further acclaim since its version 5.0 release earlier this year, which has been praised almost universally by critics and fans alike.

The game’s original creator – Nicholas "Nickster" Bishop – unfortunately committed suicide after the release of the alpha version, but the project was completed in his memory, maintained by a passionate community of supporters, as well as a dedicated development team insistent upon its completion.
