6. Mass Effect 3
While, yes, there are of course a few questionable moments during Mass Effect 3, overall the game had some of the best plot beats of the entire series and even some of the
best story moments in video game history. While the last-minute twist is certainly divisive, gamers need to remember all the superb events that came before it; whether it was having to watch our favourite Salarian scientist sacrifice himself, the look of euphoria on the face of every Krogan after you cured the genophage or even just having a last-meet shooting competition with a best buddy in a restricted area of the Citadel. Mass Effect 3 had more jaw-dropping story beats in its 20 hours than most games have over an entire franchise. So, while it might not have satisfied everyone with the final blow of its galaxy-spanning story that was never the appeal of the series in the first place. Instead it was always about the characters, and this final instalment in the trilogy had some of the most poignant, charming and emotionally-driven interactions in gaming history.
