10 Incredible Video Games That Never Existed
2. Star Wars 1313
In October 2012, Disney purchased LucasArts for a whopping $4.05 billion, and proceeded to disembowel the company. At first, LucasArts were permitted to continue working on their own projects, and it seemed as though business would continue as usual.
In March 2013, Disney cancelled a
number of projects, and halted all internal development within the company.
They proceeded to layoff the vast majority of LucasArts employees, and reduce
the company to a small skeleton crew of around ten individuals.
During this time, a number of unfinished projects were abandoned, including Star Wars 1313, a third-person shooter which emphasised exploration and cover-based shooting. In the game, players would have taken on the role of a young Boba Fett, and the plot would have revolved around eliminating various targets through the underworld metropolis of Coruscant. Unlike previous games, Star Wars 1313 would have emphasised fast-paced shooting rather than Force abilities, and would have been significantly darker than previous instalments in the franchise.
Footage of the game looked promising, and development had progressed significantly prior to its eventual cancellation. The game was originally announced in 2012, and was generating a significant degree of excitement. In all likelihood, it would have been a huge success, and while it could still be revived at some point in the future, there are currently no plans to do so.
