10 Incredible Video Games You Can't Play Today

4. Steel Battalion

It's challenging for video games to remain popular in the long-run if they relied on a console-specific peripheral.

Sadly, this was the issue with Steel Battalion. The Xbox exclusive left an impression right away, since the entire game takes place inside a vertical tank. To elevate the immersion, players used a gigantic controller, which included 44 inputs, dual joysticks, a throttle handle, three foot pedals, and several other features.

If this controller was badly programmed, this entire setup would've been gimmicky. Luckily, the controls were so accessible and precise, it really felt like you were driving a weaponised vehicle.

Sadly, Steel Battalion suffered from beginner's luck since the follow-up was let down by finicky controls. And when the third instalment was deemed borderline unplayable (thanks, Kinect) the tank simulator's reputation was in tatters.

For a time, Steel Battalion had an uphill battle, since having it ported to modern systems wasn't easy, since the gameplay required a specific peripheral. But with recent advancements in VR, there's nothing stopping Steel Battalion returning in the near future.

But since there's no legitimate news of this underrated title coming back, this sentiment is merely wishful thinking. Unless you have an Xbox and $200 to spare for an elaborate controller, playing Steel Battalion nowadays is impossible.
