10 Industry-Defining Video Games That Are Nowhere To Be Seen

TimeSplitters is almost a party game - it becomes become more and more fun as more people join in. Fundamentally, the series is a futuristic FPS, with a similar combat feel to Halo. The campaign modes are competent, but nothing special even with co-op - so once again it's down to the multiplayer to provide the entertainment. And boy, does it do a good job.

Developer Free Radical introduced a huge number of game types too. In addition to the standard 'kill-everyone' deathmatches, there were wacky modes like Virus (which is like Tag but with with more fire) and Monkey Assistant (where if you're losing, you gain the command of a few all-powerful monkey assassins). The weapons were pretty gimmicky, with the Mag-Charger being able to shoot through walls and the rocket launcher able to fire off six shells at once. Like Left 4 Dead, it's a supreme multiplayer experience for any fans of the genre.

Even with the critical acclaim it received, TimeSplitters never made the transition from the PS2/Xbox era to the subsequent console generation. Future Perfect was released in 2005, and despite a TimeSplitters 4 game being in production for over a year, nothing concrete was ever produced. Unfortunately for fans, as of 2009, the series has been declared 'on hold'.
