10 Infuriating Boss Moments That Make You Question Life Itself
7. Spectral Doku (Ninja Gaiden)
Ninja Gaiden is a challenging game by any sense of the word. One of the ultimate tests in patience, it will test your resolve and push you to the limit constantly. When it came to bosses, NG made opponents so strong that most could wipe the floor with Ryu, the protagonist, in a little under four minutes. The worse offender of this is Spectral Doku, the spirit version of one of the game's main antagonists. Doku is what the game refers to as a Greater Fiend, extremely powerful beings that can retain their spirit after death, which is what allows Spectral Doku to be. The regular Doku was definitely no pushover, as the first encounter with him is near unwinnable (for story purposes), and the second is not much better. After his death in the second battle, Spectral Doku emerges, and Ryu is hot on his trail again for one last fight. Even though Spectral Doku has only six attacks, all do major damage, which can potentially result in a quick battle. The charge attack is the worse, taking off half of a fully levelled up health bar. The other frustrating moves Spectral Doku has are an unblockable grab that results in Ryu losing about two fifths of his health while Doku regains about half of his, and another grab that slashes Ryu multiple times, ending with him impaled on Doku's sword. It takes precise dodges to take on Spectral Doku, but it's definitely easier said than done. Difficulty Rating: 8 - It will take a while to actually defeat this boss, as timing is an essential factor that must be nailed to stand a chance. Retries will be many, and they will be tedious. The difficulty of Spectral Doku will question your resolve to fight, and maybe even live.
