10 Infuriating Boss Moments That Make You Question Life Itself
8. Egg Cube (Sonic Advance 3)
The last game in the Sonic Advance series, SA3 was pretty much an updated version of the previous two titles while adding more to the overarching story and providing a neat tag-team mechanic. In this title, bosses were largely immobile instead of being fast moving machines like in previous entries. This wasn't a problem until the player came to the end of the Toy Kingdom Zone. The Egg Cube, besides being a stupid oxymoron, was definitely a menace. Essentially a large and very destructive Jack-In-The-Box, the cube is complete with a dangerously large mace on a chain, a deadly rocket, and a useless clown head. The player only gets a brief window of time to assault the device between attacks. It was usually quite a challenge just getting to the cube, as the rocket and mace both required precise timing to dodge, and if they connected, both push the player backwards a large distance. Two large pits on each side of the arena made this a very dangerous fight, as usually one hit would send you roaring into the abyss below. After a certain amount of hits to the Cube, toy soldiers will pop out with Gemerl, making the player employ bullet time just to avoid all the projectiles on screen. Easily the resident "cheap" boss in the game, the Egg Cube ruined the fun fairly quickly. Difficulty Rating: 7 - This boss is based more off of luck than skill, as getting five clown heads in a row with maybe one missile will definitely be easier than going against nothing but the mace. After losing to the Egg Cube so much, joining Sonic in that pit for a while doesn't seem that bad.
