6. Gandrake (Musashi: Samurai Legend)

Musashi: Samurai Legend is easily one of the PS2's most underrated titles, with most of the bosses being massive beasts with certain elemental power. Each elemental boss usually had its own pattern that needed to be followed, and the battles were thus straightforward, but it was only when the player got towards the last stages of the game that things took a different turn. After a grand adventure, Musashi must embark on one final, Final Fantasy-type meta mission, with no available saves, multiple bosses, no way to restock on supplies, and enemies galore. It is only after defeating the various members of the enemy organisation - a dark clone of himself, and a large beast of the organisation's leader - that Musashi really faces his ultimate test; Gandrake, the primary antagonist of the game. Gandrake requests a one-on-one dual with Musashi, and thus the nightmare begins. No matter what player tries to do to hit Gandrake, the boss will do an immediate counter and the Game Over screen will display. After numerous attempts and deaths, one of Musashi's companions - a Maiden - will hint to the player that they should study Gandrake. By studying him, the player could do a counter on the boss and save the day. While simple, the final battle is very theatrical and leaves a lasting impression. However, after numerous deaths, players will crave a generic boss fight instead. Difficulty Rating: 8 - While technically not hard at all, not knowing what to do against Gandrake will lead to a very harrowing ordeal, so much so that the game eventually pities you and tells you what to do. The well executed theatrics will definitely make you want to question how stupid you really seem.
