10 Infuriating Levels That Almost Derailed Great Games

5. Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2) €“ The End

http://youtu.be/kHD-ZEOhMBU The classic Metal Gear Solid prequel sees a young Snake pitted against guards, the wilderness and the usual group of bizarrely empowered bosses. It€™s one particular boss stage that in particular sticks out as being the most annoying and pace-interrupting of the entire bunch. Basically, The End can appear in any quadrant of a four area map; you don€™t know which one and you don€™t know when. You€™ve just got to be patient, observant and lucky all at the same time. Boring! Of course you can always defeat him by way of the signature Konami hardware exploit method, by setting your consoles clock ahead one week. When you reload the game, The End will have died of old age. Then you play the rest of the game with a nagging sense of guilt over denying an old killer his final skirmish. Sure, doing it the old fashioned way isn€™t exactly difficult (there are several ways to route him out). It€™s just pretty boring. A shame, since the rest of the game is actually top drawer.
