10 Insanely Cool Ways Video Games Were Revealed
2. P.T. - Silent Hills
The best video game that never was, P.T.'s reputation far exceeds it, so much so that it's easy to forget what happens at its conclusion.
Anyone with the balls of steel to see Hideo Kojima's experimental project through to its end would be greeted by a digital recreation of Norman Reedus' gorgeous self, accompanied by a title card for Silent Hills. Alongside Metal Gear Solid, the supposed reboot of Konami's storied survival horror IP would fall victim to the studio's much-publicized falling out with Metal Gear's creator.
Silent Hills' subsequent cancellation was a massive blow, not least because of the sheer quality of P.T. as a proof of concept.
But every cloud has a silver lining. Silent Hills would never come to fruition, but Reedus would reunite with Kojima five years later to star in Death Stranding as its central protagonist. Not exactly a spiritual successor, but all good things come to those who wait. More recently, Kojima has finally decided to get his feet wet with horror again, this time with the enigmatically titled OD, co-written by Jordan Peele, of all people. Expect one hell of a mind job when it materilizes.
