10 Insanely Popular Video Games That Are Actually Poorly Written

7. Homefront

Don't get me wrong- I get outrageous premises are pretty normal in titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield, but North Korea vs America? Really? The premise is that North Korea will take over the Western United States by 2022 is just too much, particularly when the reasons they give to justify it seem to do more to shoot the idea in the foot. For example, apparently the United States loses much power due to the loss of oil and natural gas as world resources- where as North Korea moves along uninhibited... Also, when did China allow North Korea to annex half of its land without a fight? This may seem like a lot of historical nitpicking, and in some ways it is. However, this is not a game that can get away with wacky notions- like the C&C Red Alert Series ( a series I will touch upon again later on ). With games like that, one can laugh at the idea of these things really happening cause they're so ridiculous as they plough through a whole raft of B-Movie archetypes. Homeland though has a scene during its opening sequence where civilians are lined up, blindfolded and shot outside on the street as you drive past them on a prison bus. There is nothing wacky about this, it is all very much portrayed as real and gritty. A truly bizarre idea that never really recovers from the opening titles.
