6. God of War III

God of War 3 starts by having Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta being banished to Hades by Zeus after almost reaching the apex of his power. Which would be a fair enough prologue had we not seen the exact same thing in God of War 2. It is irritating how the writers of GoW3 could not think of a long enough story, so they decided evidently that the best way to lengthen the game would be to make you pass some of the previous game's plot again. So much more could have been done with the ideas of GoW3 and its not good enough to say they had exhausted Greek mythology already because they most certainly had not. Indeed, my friend and I thought at one point that Kratos may defeat Zeus, but then have to ally with him as the monster known as Typhon descended upon Olympus, threatening to destroy the world. And that's just one idea that could have saved this story from being about Kratos threatening to tear stuff up because he feels angry. Because that's the worst thing about GoW3's story in the sense that Kratos himself is so...awful. And not in a cool 'magnificent villian' sort of way either, but just in a selfish- teenager-who-can'- think-of-anyone-but-himself way. Even though the Pandora sub-plot is a flimsy attempt to make Kratos rediscover his humanity, its far too late and at times one almost roots for some of the bosses. In fact, the whole of God of War 3's storyline seems to be an enabling exercise to say that it's really ok to destroy the world.
