For the first time in Star Wars cinematic history, the Sith will not be the face off villainy. Even though Emperor Palpatine and his apprentice Darth Vader stand at the top of the Imperial hierarchy, the military is the driving force this time around. Director Orson Krennic will be the head of that driving force in Rogue One.

Little is known about Krennic or his background at this point. He will be the most powerful on screen presence representing the Imperial military since Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope. Krennic is intriguing in the fact that fans have never seen a true embodiment of Imperial military dominance take centre stage.

Since its first imagining, Rogue One has been dubbed the first "war" movie in the Star Wars galaxy. Much of the promotional material has focused on the different appearance of this military machine with Krennic at the centre.

In the Dark Forces realm, Krennic has a similar likeness to General Rom Mohc. Much like Krennic, Mohc was a military hold over from the Clone Wars as the Republic transformed from the Republic to the Galactic Empire. Mohc would be responsible for his own project involving the Dark Trooper: a project involving the next generation stormtrooper / battle droid.

However, unlike Krennic, Mohc's dabbling in Imperial weapons would take place after the destruction of the first Death Star and would eventually lead to his downfall at the hands of Kyle Katarn.
