10 Inspirations Star Wars Rogue One Will Take From The Dark Forces Franchise

2. The Birth Of A Rebellion

At the start of A New Hope, the Rebellion comes across as a well organized group. Granted the opening scroll eludes to winning its first victory, the Rebels appear to have their act together upon witnessing the hidden base on the sanctuary moon of Yavin. Jump forward to 2016 and the new Star Wars canon, this motley group takes on a brand new appearance.

Through many other media forms, the Rebel Alliance is mostly a mishmash of other groups loosely bound together; not nearly the opposing threat it represents in the original Star Wars film. Rogue One will show the expansion of the Rebel Alliance as it marches toward its first victory against the Empire. While the plans to the Death Star will be the eventual prize, don't be surprised if there's a subplot exploring other Rebel missions revolving around the acquisition of X-Wing star fighters, the support of another rebel group, or the procurement of much needed supplies.

Jump back to the Dark Forces video game and players witness a much more organized Rebel Alliance in the wake of its success after destroying the first Death Star. While Rogue One plays with the events leading up to this battle, Dark Forces lives in the realm shortly thereafter. While both occupy two separate timelines, elements from Dark Forces could easily slide into the subplots and adventures of the cast in Rogue One. Director Gareth Edwards could easily take plot points or even specific missions from the Legends video game and incorporate them nicely within the new Canon.
