3. Xenomorph - Alien: Isolation

Stripped of their scare factor following a spate of bargain bin films (and don't Gearbox Software's laughable Colonial Marines), Creative Assembly, fancying itself a challenge, took on the task of making the Xenomorph genuinely scary again.

Tapping into the same magic of Ridley Scott's original landmark film and jettisoning the franchise's baggage, Alien: Isolation puts human cunning and primal rage into a space station-sized hamster cage and watches with childish glee to see who comes out on top. You get the short end of the stick as Ellen Ripley as she attempts to avoid the same fate that ultimately befell her poor mother, and not since has any medium managed to make cat and mouse gameplay feel so effortlessly terrifying.

Yes, Creative could have done with chopping a few hours off the runtime, but besides that, Isolation remains a classic.
