RIOT, yes the title is all capitals, looks like it could be the most interesting strategy game of the year. We've seen a massive variety of different strategy games over the years, but RIOT games seem to be attempting to put an entirely new spin on the genre. The lead developer, Leonard Menchiari, is a former Valve employee who has put together a small Italian based team to create this unique game which uses simple yet effective pixel art to create torn urban environments. Protesters, faces wrapped in bandanas and carrying Molotov cocktails, clash with riot police, armed with shields and tear gas. The game wants to recreate the chaos and vitriol of major world events. RIOT is not based around fantasy, the riots are all real life events recreated in the game. From the Battle of Keratea in Greece, to the NoTav movement in Italy and most famously, or infamously, The Tahrir Square Revolution in Egypt are all recreated in the game, allowing users to control either the insurrection or the authority in these famous clashes. There is not much footage of the game so far, but the whole idea is so unique that if it is able to match its potential it will be a real winner. Viva la Revolution, Viva RIOT.
