10 Long Video Games That Fall Apart At The VERY End

3. Batman: Arkham Asylum

It wouldn't be too hyperbolic to say that 2009's Arkham Asylum blew away expectations. Redefining the action-adventure superhero genre, with its slick combat and faithfulness to the source, Rocksteady's Batman debut was worthy of the praise.

Except when it comes to the ending.

Comic fans already knew, but to the uninitiated, it becomes apparent early on that The Joker is the logical counterpart to Batman. There are some liberties, but the gist is that Joker wouldn't do anything so nihilistic as to end his reign of terror, or make it easy for Batman.

So imagine the disappointment when, at the climax, the Clown Prince of Crime declares he has nothing to lose and doses himself with a lot of Titan. He just... wouldn't, basically.

But it's a twofold slap, as to gamers, it throws away all the established tension throughout the game for a generic boss fight. A boss fight that, to add insult to injury, has you barely fight Joker in it.

Three waves, a contextual prompt or two, and then the occasional slap and giggle with the Joker. Thankfully, Rocksteady learnt from this and varied the boss fight in Arkham City.
