10 MASSIVE Missed Opportunities In Video Game Stories
5. Killing Off Desmond - Assassin's Creed 3
The Assassin’s Creed series has definitely expanded beyond its original plan.
In the beginning, the games cleverly wove together both a past and future story where players took on the role of Desmond Miles, who in turn took on the role of his ancestors via a machine called the Animus.
The story originally seemed to be building up to a game where players would no longer need to use the animus in order to be an assassin, and would instead be playing as Desmond in a game set in the future.
However this was abruptly proven to not be the case when Desmond is suddenly killed off at the end of Assassin’s Creed 3. While the series has continued on well enough without him, it does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity to not be able to see the fruits of all of Desmond’s training as you take down the Templar’s corrupt Abstergo Industries.
After the death of Desmond, the future plot becomes focused on the players themselves as a first person experience replaces that of playing as Desmond in third person, and it seems like we may never get to play that elusive futuristic assassin game.
