10 Massively Misleading Trailers NOTHING Like The Final Game
7. Watch_Dogs
Whenever anyone asks me about a game I was so hyped for that didn’t live up to my expectations my brain immediately goes to Watch Dogs.
What a trailer, what a premise. Ubisoft’s 2013 E3 showcase even brought out a gameplay trailer that looked absolutely beautiful. It actually looks a bit better than Watch Dogs: Legion does now.
Of course, that trailer was likely made by rendering out a vertical of the gameplay in the section of the world they’d elected to show off, so when gamers got the final release in their hands it looked significantly worse. On a personal note, the driving controls also physically hurt me.
Players also complained of the middling narrative that didn’t match up with the compelling story trailer, and issues with the hacking gameplay mechanics which seemed to work better in theory than in practice. Though it wasn’t the technical marvel gamers were promised, the game still has a lot of fans for trying something different which was exciting from Ubi who at this point were on their 14th Assassin’s Creed game.
On the upside, Watch Dogs 2 was an absolute hit, probably thanks to the far more chill level of anticipation from fans who felt duped by the original.
